Overview
Common among runners, obese individuals, and those standing long hours. Pain is usually worse in the morning or after rest.
Causes
- Excess body weight
- Flat feet or high arches
- Improper footwear
- Overuse (running, standing jobs)
Symptoms
- Sharp heel pain (first steps in the morning)
- Pain decreases with activity
- Stiffness in arch or sole
- Swelling at heel

- Diagnosis: Physical exam, X-ray (to rule out spurs)
- Treatment:
- NSAIDs, cold packs
- Stretching exercises
- Orthotic insoles
- Corticosteroid injections
